Blanca Huijon is an independent woman, daughter, sister, visionary, community organizer, and experienced advocate for the Latino Community.


Blanca was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and emigrated to the United States when she was fourteen years old. Her father was a farmworker. She attended Napa Community College after graduating from Napa High School, where she obtained four A.A degrees in; Social & Behavioral Science, General Education, Fine Art, and Math. Later she obtained a B. A. in Chicano Latino Studies; and Minor in Psychology from Sonoma State University. In 2013, she obtained a grant writing certificate from Sonoma State University.

Blanca joined Puertas Abiertas in 2010 as Senior Case Mentor.


HR & Accountant


A graduate of the University of the East in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics, Melinda moved to San Diego, California in 1986. She then moved to the Bay Area, where she spent over 25 years specializing in non-profit accounting, operations, and human resources management. With Puertas Abiertas, Melinda brings dedication, confidence, expertise in accomplishing the most efficient management and financial direction.




Program /Admin Coordinator

Esmeralda Gil was born and raised in Napa Valley. In 2015, she was an intern and employee at Puertas Abiertas CRC before going to UC Davis where she obtained a BA in Psychology and a BA minor in Spanish. After graduating, she returned to serve the Napa Valley communities. Her passion and dedication for serving under-served communities stems from being raised by hard-working immigrant parents who instilled the value of using one’s gifts and education to help others. 

Esmeralda has professional experience working in early childhood education and development and is currently a Conversational English volunteer teacher at Puertas Abiertas CRC and a volunteer Literacy tutor at the Napa County Library. In her free time, she enjoys reading, photography, spending time in nature, and being with her family. One of her favorite quotes is “it is important to work hard, but what is more important is believing in yourself.” 

Case Mentor

Alejandra was born and raised in Napa Valley, where she attended Napa Valley College and received her AA in Social Behavioral Science. She graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. Being a daughter of Mexican immigrants sparked her passion for helping others. Her experience working with elderly with Alzheimer's/dementia, at-risk children/youth programs, and now Puertas Abiertas, constantly reminds her of her passion for advocacy and service for the diverse and underserved populations.

Program Associate

Karen Pulido started in February 2019 and appointed as Outreach Ambassador at Puertas Abiertas CRC in July, 2019. Karen moved with her family to the United States in 2010. After graduating from Napa High School, she attended University of California, Santa Cruz where she graduated with honors and obtained a double major in Legal Studies and Latin American and Latino Studies. Karen is optimistic and persistent to ensure that she accomplishes her goals.

Program Associate 

Josue Delgadillo was born and raised in Napa Valley, CA. After high school he continued his education at Napa Valley College receiving his Associates degree in Communication and Natural Science and Mathematics. He then transferred to the University of California, Davis where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Anthropology. Josue has been involved in the community for the past few years and gained interest in working for Puertas Abiertas because of the involvement that it has in the community and all the help that the organization provides to individuals. Before working at Puertas Abiertas, he was working for a pre-college program at Napa Valley College and was providing mentorship for NVUSD high school students.

He then gained interest in non-profit organizations that help the general population, which brought him to Puertas Abiertas
